New ranking elevates La Hacienda Links' status among Europe's elite golf resorts

La Hacienda Links Golf Resort’s position at the top table of European golf’s elite resorts has received a glowing new endorsement after the up-and-coming Spanish resort was ranked in the top 20 of a new industry list of the continent’s most luxurious golf venues for couples.

The acclaimed 36-hole resort, which occupies a privileged setting on Spain’s iconic Costa del Sol coastline overlooking the Rock of Gibraltar, was named 16th in Golf World’s inaugural ranking of the ‘Top 100 Luxe Resorts in Europe’.

Featuring a who’s who of Europe’s top premium golf venues that offer an outstanding golf experience alongside high-quality accommodation and high-class dining, the ranking assessed each resort across four categories – course, accommodation, amenities and setting. La Hacienda scored highly in each, with the resort's redesigned Links course and Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol hotel – which opened last year, completing the resort – being singled out for special praise.

Announcing its verdict, the Top 100 panel said: “The renovated Links course Insta-worthy throughout and the brand new Fairmont hotel that overlooks it is seriously good, combining modern luxury with pleasing sophistication. This position might surprise people; La Hacienda deserves it.”

The coveted honour is the latest significant global recognition that La Hacienda has received in the last six months after the resort was placed 94th in Golf World’s influential ranking of the ‘World’s Top 100 Golf Resorts’ at the start of the year – the first time in its history that it has featured in the list.

Located in the Cadiz municipality of San Roque and offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and the coast of North Africa, La Hacienda has undertaken a major overhaul of its golf and lifestyle amenities in the last five years that has transformed it into one of Europe’s premier golf resorts.

As well as carrying out major renovations to its two 18-hole hole championship courses – the Links and the Heathland – its golf academy facilities and opening a new clubhouse and halfway house, the resort strengthened its international reputation for golf and lifestyle in 2025 with the opening of the five-star Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol resort.

Overlooking the sea and surrounded by the renowned courses, Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol features 150 rooms, 161 suites and 47 villas, offering space, privacy and an environment designed for relaxation. The resort provides guests with preferential access to the championship courses, reinforcing La Hacienda as a reference point for golf enthusiasts. Beyond golf, Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol is distinguished by its spa and wellness centre, family-friendly facilities and high-level dining, placing it among Europe’s most notable resorts.

Javier Jimenez Casquet, director general at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, said: “This recognition is a proud moment for everyone at La Hacienda Links Golf Resort, and is testament to the quality of our

two championship courses, the exceptional experience delivered by Fairmont La Hacienda Costa del Sol and the dedication of our entire team. The resort has undergone an amazing transformation in recent years, and we remain committed to continuing to elevate La Hacienda’s reputation on the international stage and providing unforgettable experiences for golfers and visitors.”
